The International Contemporary Music Festival, held from September 5 to 6 in 1969 was a contemporary music festival organized by The Seoul Shinmun Newspaper Company. By serving to introduce avant-garde music and performance by artists such as Paik Nam June, Kang Sukhi, and other experimental artists, the festival became significant within the contemporary art world. Notable events from the festival’s history include the performance of Paik Nam June’s performance piece Sex on the Piano, by Chung Chanseung and Cha Myunghui, and Kim Kulim’s performance of a happening to the accompaniment of Karl Heinz Stockhausen’s electronic music.
